Mountain Activity Day (Part 2)

Welcome to Mountain Activity Day (Part 2)! The two parts are due to a technical reason with blogger and nothing more. So, where were we? Ah...atop a rock with Lund's Tower standing in the distance and great views all around.

 Mr September
Here Mr Lee is wearing a designer Edelrid helmet in red, which is offset by light blue rucksack straps, offering that perfect activity-ready, outdoors look for those who fancy themselves as ramblers but don't want to compromise on style.

We had almost reached the top of the mountain (or big hill - not sure if it's actually a mountain but that sounds more dramatic doesn't it?) so it was time to do some serious climbing towards the summit.

Amazing skills - Year 6 were absolute troopers on this climbing activity. We were finally up at the top of the huge mountain (!) and we could see both towers clearly now. You can't in the picture below but we could because we could turn around!

Ah there it is. Lund's Tower. It was almost lunch time - we just had to navigate through this field of sheep.

 Made it!
One of the instructors erected an emergency tent which had no poles at all - it only stays up if there's enough heads inside the tent!

So while some of the children got warm and cosy in the tent, the others went up to the top of the tower....
Meanwhile the others were still in the tent.....
....but some other people were up the tower.
Meanwhile, those people who weren't up the tower gathered on the ground for a photo opportunity.
There was a quick costume change (Ok this might not be quite in chronological order but it is a cool hat so it deserves a place somewhere).....
...then the whole group gathered for another aerial shot!
We played a game up on the top of the enormously huge mountain range.
I positioned myself quite far away so I can get all the children in shot so I missed the instructions but it seemed to involve lots of running....
 ....and screaming and running......
 ....and screaming and running......
 and running and screaming....
 and running and screaming....
 and running and screaming....
...screaming some more then running some more.....
...then carrying on but screaming even louder.....
 ...and running....
 ..and screaming.....
 ....with a bit of laughing....
Not really sure what it was all about but everyone seemed happy when they'd finished.

 More running / screaming out-takes:

The sun was still shining and we were still smiling.....

.....briefly. It was time for the biggest challenge of the day - abseiling. We have some very brave children in Year 6 - I stood back and took pictures with real admiration for the children as they really pushed themselves with this task, including some of the children who clearly found this terrifying at first.

Bravo gang! You were awesome! Then it was time for some 'weaseling' which doesn't sound very pleasant but was certainly a lot of fun.

 Is that helmet on correctly?!

The girls definitely ended up the muddiest which I believe - in weaseling terms - means you must be doing something right!

Then it was time to walk all the way back down after a glorious morning and afternoon of mountain activities....
....for a bonus indoor climb at the new bouldering room back at the centre.

I'm sure you can tell from the many photos that today has been absolutely amazing so far. Year 6 should be so proud of their effort so far and are rightly have a little rest after dinner before our evening activity - Blindline. If possible I will get a blog of this up tonight - hope you're enjoying looking at the pictures so far!
